Description
The Clinical Director plays a vital role in overseeing and advancing clinical education within the Nurse Anesthesia (AFN) program. This position includes opportunities for teaching, curriculum development, student advising, clinical practice coordination, and scholarly contributions. Faculty members are expected to foster strong relationships with clinical sites, ensure high-quality training experiences for students, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the AFN program.
Requirements
This position is tenured track eligible, and academic rank and salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
- Experience in clinical education, preceptorship, or faculty instruction in nurse anesthesia or related fields.
- Strong foundation in basic and clinical sciences relevant to nurse anesthesia practice.
- Active, unencumbered CRNA certification and APRN licensure (or eligibility for licensure in South Carolina).
- Doctoral degree in Nurse Anesthesia or a related healthcare field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- The most competitive candidates will have:
- A record of expertise in clinical and/or didactic education
- Experience in curriculum development, academic scholarship, and professional association involvement
Reporting & Evaluation
- Faculty members report to the AFN Division Director. Performance evaluations are conducted by the Division Director, with input from the Department Chair and Dean.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clinical Coordination & Student Support
- Establish and maintain affiliate relationships with external clinical sites to ensure quality clinical instruction.
- Prepare and execute clinical rotation assignments and monitor nurse anesthesia resident progression during their time in the program.
- Collaborate with the clinical education staff to ensure students meet all onboarding and credentialing requirements before clinical rotations.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the program, students, clinical coordinators, and clinical preceptors.
- Collect and maintain student, preceptor, and clinical site evaluations to assess clinical education effectiveness.
Faculty Instruction & Academic Duties
- Contribute to student instruction as a course director for practicum courses.
- Participate in high-fidelity simulation throughout the didactic year and aid in maintaining simulation labs and equipment.
- Share didactic teaching responsibilities within the AFN division, contributing to the delivery of high-quality educational content.
- Support curriculum development to align with educational and clinical instruction goals.
- Engage in interprofessional education initiatives to promote collaboration across healthcare disciplines.
- Collaborate with the division director and other AFN faculty in curriculum development, program evaluation, and accreditation processes.
- Serve as a mentor and academic advisor to students, providing guidance in clinical, professional, and scholarly project development.
- Participate in faculty meetings, program committees, and accreditation preparation.
Scholarship & Professional Engagement
- Contribute to scholarly activities, research, presentations, and publications in nurse anesthesia education and practice.
- Engage in professional development and continuing education to stay current in the field.
- Represent the program in national and regional nurse anesthesia organizations and conferences.
