Expand Your OR Expertise in a High-Acuity Academic Medical Center
At Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, you’ll practice in a high-acuity academic environment where surgical complexity, team collaboration and continuous learning are part of every shift.
Located in central Pennsylvania, we are the only academic medical center and Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center in the state. Our OR nurses are part of cases that require clinical judgement, adaptability and a strong foundation in perioperative care.
What Sets This OR Apart
Dual circulating and scrub practice
All OR nurses at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center are trained to circulate and scrub. This allows nurses to build a deeper understanding of each procedure, strengthen collaboration with the surgeons and expand your clinical skillset beyond a single-function role.
If you’ve worked in a circulating-only environment, this is an opportunity to broaden your practice.
High-acuity, high-variety case mix
With 34 operating rooms and more than 20,000 cases annually, you’ll work across a wide range of specialties and levels of complexity and not be limited to a narrow set of procedures or predictable case flow.
A true academic environment
You’ll work alongside surgical teams managing complex and rare conditions, with access to the latest techniques, technology and clinical advancement.
What It’s Like to Work Here
This is a fast-paced, team-driven OR where flexibility and critical thinking matter.
You’ll work with rotating surgeons and specialties, which means no two days are the same. This is an environment where you’re expected to stay sharp, adapt quickly and continuously build your skillset. Nurses who thrive here are curious, collaborative and motivated to keep growing their skills.
Surgical Specialties:
- Core services: General surgery, vascular, orthopedics and ENT
- Advanced specialties: Neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery and transplant
- Specialty care: Pediatric surgery, gynecology, urology, plastic and reconstructive surgery
Role Overview
In this role, you’ll coordinate and deliver perioperative nursing care across a wide range of surgical procedures.
You’ll serve as a key patient advocate in the operating room while collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality care.
Through both circulating and scrub responsibilities, you’ll directly support procedural flow, maintain sterile integrity and contribute to strong surgical outcomes.
