SMHCS Administrative Fellowship The Administrative Fellowship at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) is a two-year program designed to lead future healthcare leaders through experiences in hospital and system operational dynamics. In the first year, the administrative fellow will participate in rotations throughout the healthcare system. The second year is spent managing projects that fulfill both the administrative fellow’s interests and the organization’s needs. The second year will also include mentoring the incoming administrative fellow. SMHCS is a not-for-profit system consisting of an 897-bed public hospital in Sarasota, FL, a 212-bed hospital in Venice, FL, an 82-bed behavioral health facility, an integrated network of outpatient facilities located throughout Sarasota County, as well as a physician enterprise. With nearly over 11,000 employees, SMHCS is the county’s largest employer. SMHCS continues to grow, with a 7-story outpatient Cancer Pavilion opening in 2026, a new Rehabilitation Pavilion at the Venice campus opening in 2028, and a 9-story hospital in North Port slated to open in 2028. FPG Administrative Fellowship The First Physicians Group Administrative Fellowship at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) is a one-year program designed to lead future healthcare leaders through experiences in physician practice management. In the first 4-6 months, the administrative fellow will participate in rotations primarily focused on the medical practice setting, with additional exposure to the healthcare system and ambulatory services. The following 6 months is spent managing projects within First Physicians Group. First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is a physician enterprise that was founded in 1994 and employs over 700 providers, with primary and specialty care physicians who practice throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties. First Physicians Group provides additional medical and surgical specialties, in addition to hospitalist, anesthesia, and trauma programs.
